To cope with this disease, T1 Diabetics must regulate their own blood sugar levels, which the body would normally do automatically. This involves regular monitoring of blood glucose levels, and counting the carbohydrate content of food consumed to ensure that the correct amount of insulin can be administered.
 
Insulin can be administered either by multiple daily injections, or by an insulin pump which is permanently attached to the diabetic's body.
